THIS WEEK IN AI — From the Inbox

OpenAI is now selling AI to the Pentagon. A new deal gives OpenAI access to both classified and unclassified Defense Department work through Amazon Web Services. Anthropic — who had a Pentagon contract worth up to $200 million — was dropped in February after refusing to allow unrestricted military AI use. OpenAI stepped in.
NVIDIA forecasts $1 trillion in AI chip revenue by 2027. CEO Jensen Huang doubled last year's projection at the annual developer conference this week. NVIDIA's market value now sits above $4.3 trillion. New chips are coming. The AI infrastructure race is not slowing down.
NVIDIA also went open source on AI agents. Their new OpenClaw tool lets developers build AI agents that continuously learn new skills and work directly with files and apps without relying on the cloud. A local-first alternative to cloud-dependent AI solutions.
AI fakes are flooding the internet about the Iran war. AI-generated images, manipulated satellite photos, and deepfake videos are being used by state-controlled media and Russian-aligned propaganda groups to spread confusion. Iran's state outlet posted an AI-manipulated image of "destroyed" US radar equipment. It was fake. Big media literacy story right now.
Encyclopedia Britannica is suing OpenAI for copyright infringement. ChatGPT allegedly scraped nearly 100,000 articles without permission and violated trademark law when it hallucinated content falsely attributed to Britannica.
AI security alert for anyone using coding agents. Hidden instructions in README files caused AI coding agents to leak sensitive data to outside servers 85% of the time. Human reviewers missed every attack in testing.
Google added spend caps to AI Studio. Developers can now set monthly dollar limits per project. Even Google is building guardrails into how much AI costs to run.
Shopify says AI shopping agents are coming. Their president says AI will act as personal shoppers, surfacing products based on context, not search terms. This will reshape how people buy online.
Facebook Marketplace now uses AI to auto-reply to buyers. Meta AI handles "Is this still available?" messages, generates listing details from photos, and creates seller profile summaries. If you sell on Marketplace, you've probably already seen this.
Atlassian cut 10% of its workforce — about 1,600 people — in an AI pivot. The software company behind Jira and Confluence is shifting toward AI-driven operations. This is becoming a pattern across the tech industry.
AI is moving into everyday broadcast and media workflows. NewscastStudio published a roundtable this week on where AI is delivering real practical value in production — not experimentation anymore, actual daily use.
FAST channel viewership rose 21% in Q4 2025. Ad-supported free streaming keeps growing. Worth watching as a distribution consideration for your content.
